"Third
Generation Entrepreneur"
Pullen's Tour Charter Bus Company was built on a long history
of successful entrepreneurs. Being a third generation business
owner, Hornett Pullen Knows firsthand about the power of having
a vision. His grandfather, Samuel Pullen, began his entrepreneurial
enterprise on a 100-acre farm in North Carolina. Utilizing all
of his resources, he rented out blocks of land to farmers for
raising crops and livestock and sold wood to the local paper manufacturing
mill.
Being a gifted man who lived the principles of the Bible, he instilled
in his children, seven boys and four girls, the importance of
humility and having the courage to follow their dreams. With this
strong upbringing not being deterred by obstacles or negative
circumstances, his sons moved out of North Carolina to pursue
unknown opportunities in Baltimore.
From hauling steel for Bethlehem Steel to operating a charter
bus company, despite many barriers since the fifties, the Pullen
family had been associated with transportation industry.
But in 1992, due to declining health and overwhelmed owners, Pullen's
Tours was sold.
"The Dream Rekindled"
In 1996 while volunteering to drive the bus to Orlando for a Baptist
Convention, Hornett Pullen noticed a "for sale sign"
on an old bus. On this sweltering August day, amidst tired church
goers with their itineraries, he began to visualize white sparkling
buses emblazon with the family name on the side carrying excited
passengers to desired destinations. Reflecting upon the rich heritage
of his family, he says, My grandfather planted a seed from the
womb, cultivated it, and gave us a strong legacy to build our
future upon. Being highly motivated by the clarity of this calling,
with fierce determination, lots of prayer, and even overcoming
financial obstacles, "Pullen's Tour Service Incorporated,"
a charter bus company, was bought into fruition in the winter
of 1996.
With a humble beginning of one old bus, this fine company has
transformed into a luxurious three-bus charter company seating
fifty-seven people and performing subcontract work for clientele
as diverse a s the National Football League to the Presidential
Cup Association in Manassa Virginia. Locally, schooled children
visiting the Baltimore Zoo, and church groups have been served
as well. When asked about his success, he responds meekly, "I
just want to operate a successful business, being able to give
back to the community which has given me so much."
So if you are planning a trip to see whales in Novia Scotia or
the changing leaves on the Beautiful Skyline in the Blue Ridge
Mountains, contact Hornett Pullen at (410) 242-4500 or (410) 247-0556 to book a tour.
